Free Guitar Stuff

Filed under: Free Stuff - 27 Jul 2007

I’ve found a page called Guitar Free Downloads which seems to have been on the web since the year dot but it has links to alot of free music and audio programs.
Their page inclides links to Demos, Freeware, Shareware, and Donationware. All geared towards enhancing your guitar playing and study. Also included in the mix are MP3 files and MIDI backing tracks.
Their programs include:
Power Tab Editor v1.7 (Build 80)
Power Tab Editor is a tablature authoring tool for the Windows operating system. It is intended to be used to create guitar sheet music, more commonly known to musicians as guitar tablature and bass tablature. (aka guitar tab/bass tab). The program provides the most commonly used symbols in tablature, including chord names, chord diagrams, rhythm slashes, bends, slides, hammer-ons/pull-offs, harmonics and palm muting. A useful piece of software for people who want to learn how to play guitar, and for experienced guitarists who want to transcribe their own music and/or guitar lessons. The software can be used by both acoustic and electric guitar players alike.
Guitar Toolbar
Guitar Toolbar is packed with 444 scale patterns and 84 mode patterns in all 12 keys. In the chord section there are 23 of the most common chords in all keys featuring different shapes and inversions.
Ear Guitar
Ear Guitar is a melody generator for ear training purposes. You choose which notes you want to practice playing by ear. It is excellent note recognition practice for musicians wishing to improve their ability to play by ear.
Guitar Alchemist
Explore the modes and chords of the major scale in any key with this great looking guitar tool. Easily find the right chord voicings, filtering them by difficulty or inversion, and list all the modes you can play over. The fingerboard can be configured (Left handed players, background texture and other features).

More on guitar chord progressions

Filed under: Music Notes - 26 Jul 2007

Here’s a nice two-part lesson on chord progression from heartwoodguitar.com This will help demystify the mysteries of guitar chords!
“If you’ve been playing guitar a while, you’ve probably noticed that certain chords seem to go together. For instance, if you’re playing a song in the key of G, chances are you’re going to encounter C, D, and Em too. That’s because those chords belong in the chord family of the key of G.
And there are three chords within any family that really stick together: The I, IV, and V chords. Think of them as inseparable siblings. Just to get you started hearing these chord relationships, play an A, D, and E chord, one after the other. Now play G, C, and D. Now try D, G, and A. Hear a similarity? You just played a I - IV - V progression in three different keys.
Knowing your chord families is really helpful. “But Rob,” I hear you saying, “I had a hard enough time remembering names at my own family reunion in St. Louis last summer. Why should I press my luck with someone else’s family?”
I hear you. I frequently have to count back when someone asks my age. But because popular songs are often comprised just of chords in a single chord family, knowing this stuff makes it much easier to figure out songs by ear, compose your own music, and change songs to other keys. And it’s really not that hard to learn the basics.”

“Lead Guitar Secrets” sell out!

Filed under: Guitar News - 24 Jul 2007

Since Dan Denley’s Lead Guitar Secrets course was officially released on July 20, the response has been amazing!
In fact, he was offering three incredible bonuses to the first 250 people who ordered the course. But they sold out in the first few HOURS.
And apparently there were a whole bunch of people who were upset because they never even got a chance to order. So Dan decided to create an ADDITIONAL bonus for everyone who orders before July 27.
He created a short video that explains what this all about.
You can check out the video here
The introductory price for Lead Guitar Secrets is only guaranteed till July 27 OR for the initial 1000 orders…whichever comes FIRST. After that, all bets are off…But, actually there’s an even more pressing issue…There is a real possibility the course could sell out BEFORE Friday.
Last December, when Dan released his Blues course, it sold out in six DAYS.
They literally had to pull down the website and stop taking orders for a month until their stock could be replenished.
So, if you’re interested, you should definitely jump on this while they are still available at the introductory price.
Change your attitude to guitar lessons!
