Instant guitar effects software
GuitarFX is a free program that puts electronic guitar effects onto your computer. Bear in mind that some of the effects might be a drain on your computer’s life force, but the program has a visual indicator of how much CPU it’s using. I’m not sure how much support you get from the inventor, but last time I looked there was a Yahoo group you could download effects from.
“You are dreaming about power impressive distortions like Metallica has and natural sounding 10 sec sustain like Santana guitar sings! During XX century guitar players have known one way only - to buy expensive pedals and stompboxes and plug a guitar into a hole in these devices. But times have changed. Today all we have got personal computers (PC). I am sure many guitar players with PC have seen several holes at the back side of their PCs. These holes look very similar to the holes on the effects pedals! So, many of us sometimes think - I have pluged my guitar into effects pedals during last 10 years. But now I would like to try something new. Well, why (at the end) do not try to plug in a guitar into PC? What happens if I put my guitar cable jeck into one of the holes at the back side of my personal computer? The answer is you will get a great guitar sound! Yes, your PC can pumps electric guitar signals, processe it, apply distortion, sustain, wah, chorus, flanger, reverb, delay effects and output result signals on your headphones or speakers. PC does not need an additional equipment to do this. No options necessary! (I am sure your PC has a sound card).
Easy to use, the PC Guitar Effects Software is the first direct interface for guitar, bass or even vocals. Simply plug into your sound card guitar cable and you’re ready to play.
The Guitar Effects Software produce clean and distortion modes, noise gate, reverb, chorus, flanger, delay, digital filters and an 8 and 16 bans EQ features. The clean mode features a pristine clean tone with just enough compression to add punch and clarity without sounding over-squashed. The distortion features over 45dB of screaming gain and sustain with a gain control to tame it down. The distortion also features noise reduction with a variable threshold control to eliminate unwanted noise from noisy pickups and built-in speaker simulator software. The reverb software and built-in software speaker simulation helps give that REAL amp feel through any set of PC speakers. The AUX inputs of a sound card and software level control offer the ability to plug in other external software plug-ins effects and drum machines, keyboards, external mixers, etc.”
