Clapton: The Autobiography
Canoe Jam has an interesting article about Eric Clapton’s autobiography.
“He also delves into his romance with Pattie Boyd, who wound up with Clapton after her split with Beatle George Harrison. Their star-crossed affair made her the muse for some of Clapton’s most memorable songs, including “Layla” and “Wonderful Tonight,” before the romance gave way to recriminations.
Clapton recalled a recent Sunday morning trip to his local grocery store, where Boyd’s new memoir, “Wonderful Tonight,” was excerpted in the British press. The page one headline jumped out as he grabbed the paper: “ERIC CLAPTON’S DRINKING KILLED MY MARRIAGE.”
“The headline editor chose to castigate me quite strongly,” Clapton says with more than a touch of British understatement. “I’m in the local shop, and I’m thinking, ‘Are the neighbours watching me read?”‘ ”

Death By Guitar
For an activity that involves high levels of drugs, alcohol, stupidity and electricity, surprisingly few accidents involving electric guitars have been recorded:
Keith Relf, was the harmonica player and lead singer in The Yardbirds. He was killed in 1976 by a shock from an electric guitar that was not grounded properly.
Leslie Harvey of an unknown group called Stone The Crows, was killed in 1972 by a microphone that was not properly grounded.
John Rostill, bass guitar player of The Shadows, was killed in 1973 while waiting in his home studio for Bruce Welch, The Shadows’ rhythm guitar player.
Vintage Guitar Show 2007
Maybe I’m not enthusiastic enough but watching guitar nerds try out 5000 euro guitars (I didn’t dare to touch anything I can’t afford *g*) just wasn’t satisfying for that 12 bucks entry fee. I bought myself a set of Fender strings, a handful of picks, and a high end instrument cable (which really makes a difference, to my surprise) for twenty, which very well compensated me for the entry, but unless I win a lottery or something and can buy one of the real things I doubt I’ll go there again next year.
