Beatles For Classical Guitar

A major event in the world of fingerstyle guitar playing in the 1970s was the publication of “Beatles For Classical Guitar”. This was the first successful attempt to mix classical guitar playing with the songs of the Beatles.
Guitar players who are used to finger picking folksongs on the guitar found that classical guitar technique was a bit of a challenge.
Some guitar players believed that a volume of classical style acoustic guitar arrangements of the songs of The Beatles was only a stunt. But the songs are all significant arrangements that countless classical guitarists find very rewarding to play.
Guitarists who respected the Beatles’ music discovered that the songs had not been made weird in the course of arranging them for fingerpicking. The songs were arranged for guitarists who could read conventional music notation and they were without challenges. The songs demanded that you pay some attention
Some guitarists are going to feel resentful that there are not tabs, but the songs are a little too complex to be converted into tab successfully.

Here is the list of songs:

Across The Universe
Ask Me Why
Come Together
Cry Baby Cry
Day Tripper
For No One
From Me To You
Hello, Goodbye
Here Comes The Sun
I Don’t Want To Spoil The Party
I Will
I’ll Follow The Sun
I’m A Loser
I’m Happy Just To Dance With You
I’m Only Sleeping
I’m So Tired
In My Life
The Long And Winding Road
Maxwell’s Silver Hammer
No Reply
Nowhere Man
P.S. I Love You
Penny Lane
Something
Things We Said Today
This Boy (Ringo’s Theme)
Two Of Us
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Yesterday
You’re Going To Lose That Girl

You might be surprised by the inclusion of some of the tunes in a collection of guitar solos. So go ahead and try them out.

If this book is the one written by Martin Washington, then it contains mistakes. I was a pupil of Martin’s for a very short time. He hailed from the city of Bendigo, Australia, and spent much of his professional life in the UK, supposedly arranging music for the Beatles. When I was taught by him in the early 1980′s, I had had some classical guitar training, and was trying to master his arrangements. I noticed that some of the songs had mistakes. When I asked him to play the tunes, he confided that he had never played them. He said that he couldn’t play too much because of debilitating arthritis, and that the book company had only commissioned him to prepare the songs, not to play them. I noticed that his arrangements are being peddled by some Russian dude who’s affixed his own name to the arrangements: talk about plagiarising faux material. Martin also told me that he was the only person in the world who could play the guitar properly, and that everyone else was using incorrect technique. I stopped paying my money to him after that, and looked for another teacher.

“Some guitar players are going to feel cheated by the fact that there are not tabs but the pieces are a bit too complicated to be translated into tab effectively.”

What absolute rubish!!!!!! I have never heard such nonsense. If you don’t wanna use TAB fine, but TAB is a far more effective way of putting complicated guitar parts to paper than stave notation. Don’t pretend it’s not just ‘cos you’re an old-fashioned player who likes dots.
