Easy Guitar Chords

When you first start learning guitar you want everything to be easy including the chords. There are chords that you can learn that are easy to play, and learning songs using these chords will get you off to a flying start but they don’t make for very interesting listening. What you need to do is put some energy into how you are practicing your chords so that every time you practice you’ll be adding to your dexterity and your understanding of how to play the guitar.

Learning to play the guitar is not a matter of just learning chord shapes, you need to be able to move between chords. So to develop the fluidity you need to learn chords, play them in different sequences and at different speeds.

Go to your chord chart and look for an easy chord like C Major or G major. Now, without tensing your hand or your arm too much, carefully place your fingers at the positions the chord chart is showing you. But don’t put everything into forming the chord – take notice whether you are screwing your face up or holding your breath.

At their first attempt to play chords most people find they have muffled a string or two or three. This is because they don’t exert the correct pressure on the strings or the sides of the fingers touch the adjacent strings, muffling them. This is where you need to train yourself into a new mode of behavior. When you hear that muffled sound don’t react with frustration. Just correct your fingers and keep going.
