As a guitar player you have probably trawled the internet looking for guitar lessons. Whether or not you want to learn to play guitar for free, your vision probably involved learning songs form tabs as well as getting as much theory and technique exercises you can handle.

Learn To Play Acoustic Guitar

You watch a guitarist playing an acoustic guitar, doing some fingerstyle patterns and you think, “How difficult can it be to learn acoustic guitar?” You could possibly just teach yourself enough to play some folk songs. There’s no harm in giving it a shot.

If you would like to learn to play acoustic guitar, it would be good to have a friend to help you with things like chord changes or learning simple finger picking patterns. Anyway, first you need to buy an acoustic guitar. Look in music stores and secondhand dealers to see what you can find.

Get the feel of some of the different brands of guitar and make up your mind whether you want to teach yourself acoustic guitar on a nylon string or steel string guitar. A nylon string will be less stressful on your fingers while you are learning but you might find later that you prefer the volume and ringing tone of a steel string acoustic guitar.

Some tablature of Bob Dylan songs would be good to start with, but there are easy songs by many artists you could learn. You can buy the tabs or sheet music for your songs or you can download guitar tabs and chord charts from the internet for free.

Don’t get too into learning a mountain of chords and no songs. Playing songs will help you learn chord changing and it’s encouraging to hear yourself playing something you’ve heard on the radio.

It would help you immensely to start jamming with other people who play acoustic guitar. They can give you tips on how to play, and learning to keep up with a singer or another guitarist will be helpful.

Another thing to think about when you teach yourself acoustic guitar is that you might need some exercises to get your hands working and make your playing more versatile. If you do an internet search for licks, riffs and strumming patterns and use them as part of your regular practice, you will find it will boost your confidence.
