Misa Guitar

Struggling with sore fingers could be a thing of the past for aspiring guitar players. The digital guitar is here. The Misa Guitar is really a midi controller but it looks like a guitar, waddles like a guitar and quacks like a guitar. Or like any other instrument.

Electronic music has always involved some preparation. In the seventies Emerson Lake And Palmer showed what a keyboard player in could do with a bunch of electronic gizmos but that still left little for the devoted neck-fondlers in the way of self expression.

According to the inventor: “The aim is for people to be able to translate the music in their head, out of the guitar in a more intuitive manner. I believe I have succeeded with this design. Because this instrument is really fun to play and really addictive. Much of the frustration of playing the tradition guitar is gone, but the digital guitar itself challenges your creativity more. This is the direction musical interfaces should be taking.”

The notes are found on the neck in the same way you would find them on guitar strings. The difference is in the work the right hand has to do. The body of the guitar is a touch screen with volume control and sound variations assigned to areas on the body.

So it’s not a real guitar with strings. If they had touch screens in the seventeenth century people would have played them. Now we have them, we can be purists or we can embrace the new world. You can’t actually buy one yet, so here’s the Misa Guitar Website where you can arrange to grab one when they become available.

What gets me most, is the fact no one can except, this is a ,technically wise, brilliant piece of kit, that is the point of it, not to replace the guitar. oh, and when you comment back, try and use some punctuation. It’s pretty hard to read what you mean when your sentences are unstructured, thanks.

You’re not getting my point here, what I’m trying to say is people will pick this up or play Rock band, Guitar Hero etc. Then they say they can pick up any other guitar and think they’re the best, and can play like Kirk or Jimi. Thats what really pisses me off. Yes i understand that this is just a piece technology to have fun with and what not, but when people pick it and say “Oh if i can play this i can play a REAL guitar.”

It’s just not going to happen.That said, I see a great deal of potential for instruments like these. There’s a lot of great synth and techno music out there, and I see instruments like these as a parallel to those sorts of music and musicians.

Its 1) for people who play guitar and want to fiddle around with a synth without paying a ton of money modifying a guitar, or buying a full keyboard. 2) To make live performances easier and more entertaining for a crowd. Instruments change over time and as technology advances. The electric guitar, even the acoustic guitar, are artifacts of that change, else we would be playing sitar like instruments…but even the sitar is an artifact of technology evolution. Some people are drawn to the change, others resist, but it will happen.

I dont think its right to say the electric guitar and acoustic guitar are artifacts yet when their widely used to this day and hardly anyone ive seen has used this misa digital guitar. It might not be easy to play at first but you cant say this is harder to use than an actual guitar. You dont develop callus, how to tune a guitar, and things real instruments teach.

    [..YouTube..] …the electric, in particular, has seen drastic changes/enhancements since its invention, nevermind changes in post processing (amp,effects). Calluses? Is that a skill? No, that is just an unfortunate obstacle/side effect that surely every guitar player would prefer to do without. Are you saying that tuning a guitar is a great skill? And I never made a judgement as to which is harder to play, although a hybrid (eg. manson M1D1) surely is more complicated than a standard guitar.

The simple point I made is that change is inevitable and the guitar will face change as it has in the past. This kind of instrument (yes, it is a real musical instrument) is simply one possible branch of that inevitable change.

I have a jackson SL2H soloist, and it’s a dream to play. The strings are super low, and is not a pain to play at all. I don’t think there’d be many people saying that I play a “pussy” guitar though.Actually, if you think this looks too easy to play, then you suck at guitar. If you practice enough, then the calluses etc. are things you don’t even think about.

I don’t feel all that inhibited by it anymore, if you think this makes guitar too easy then you need to learn harder songs, that’s where the difficulty comes in, where you have to learn very complicated or fast songs. It becomes more a challenge for your mind than for your technique.

There, on this so called “digital guitar”, the sound changes, ok, but the playing style too! It’s no longer to pick strings, but to put your hand somewhere on the neck and tap the digital board, it’s no longer a guitar then! If you can play organ or synthetizers, you can easily play piano, if you’re good at digital guitar, you won’t be with a real one

Guitar will always exist and I am sure Les Paul will greatly apply to any evolution touching his instrument.

Playing that is still equivalent of playing an actual guitar, minus picking/strumming. Do you think the person in this video could play this without being able to play an actual guitar?     [..YouTube..] i think its cool. as a player, and a human you must think of how things evolve. this would never replace a guitar. but you gotta admit its cool looking and sounding. i think its cool….def cool…one could think of the les paul w the computer on it…how it will tune for you…you can also zone on to just one string…and have each of the strings on the les paul do diffrent things and sound diffrently…its cool any how. everybody has a right to an opinion.

    [..YouTube..] @tinrulitos It looks more confusing to me. I do not play either but, the dots on the touch screen and the ‘frets’ which are not precise make it look incredibly hard to get a pre-existing song accurate. Just stating my opinion.

    [..YouTube..] Don’t get the negative comments, did the Keytar get the same level of hate as this? This instrument looks great and is incredibly versatile because you can download sound packs that change the music style to anything. To say it takes no talent is ridiculous, just because it has no strings doesn’t mean it’s easier to play.

This is a synth that guitar players can easily play, and will probebly in time open up whole new avenues of electronic music (if ur into that crap) :p
