In the nineteen sixties Jack Bruce changed the way that bass guitar players played bass guitar. The bass player now has the opportunity to play like a soloist if he wants to. This does not mean that the bass has changed from an instrument that is felt in the body to one that is listened to entirely with the mind. If you feel that you want to be a bass player who plays tunes and ornamental riffs, listen to other band members when they ask you to keep it simple.

Also you might not know that there are lots of types of bass guitars to choose from. You can get four, five or six string basses that offer you a variety of ways to express yourself.
